Portland City Art and PDX Bridge Festival are proud to bring you the first annual Gallery Tour.  Local galleries and alternative venues have teamed up to offer you an art experience like no other.  From fire-dancing belly dancers and bohemian story tellers to urban landscape artists and large-scale installations, this year’s submissions have come together in an incomparable collection of Portland talent that will take you across many of our city’s celebrated bridges that literally and metaphorically provided inspiration for this year’s PDX Bridge Festival art.

Tribute Gallery, and three Pioneer Place Galleries (Suspension, Arches, and Trusses Galleries) represent our participating West side galleries while Olympic Mills Commerce Center (Beam Bridge Gallery), 100th Monkey Studios, and Launchpad Gallery are the Southeast Industrial homes on the east side of the river.

The first Thursday opening at Tribute Gallery features a small selection of Portland photographers as they took on the strong angles and ambiance of the bridges.  First Friday is alive on the east side with openings at Launchpad gallery and 100th Monkey Studios.  At Launchpad you’ll find a beautiful show called “Proximity,” a group show about artistic couples and how they influence each other and at 100th Monkey their show, “Maps,” explores the relationship we all have with navigating our world, both internallly and externally.  The fabulous shows filling out the Pioneer Galleries showcase a broad spectrum of work ranging from conceptual installation to performance art and textured paintings; all three galleries have an opening reception from 2pm-7pm on Saturday, July 10th.

For the most comprehensive representation of this year’s art, make sure to mark your calendars for July 23rd.  We will be hosting the PDX Bridge Festival kick-off party from 7pm-11pm with music, performance, food, drink and over 75 artists works at Olympic Mills Commerce Center.  This is going to be THE summer event that marks the beginning of the most culturally engaging festival of the year!!

The number of events and happenings around the city betwen July 23rd and August 8th is sitting at a mind-boggling 60+; ranging from historical walking tours, thrill-seeking jet boat tours, informative speaker series and the single larest public art installation Portland has ever seen, this two-week festival is like no other in Portland. To see a full list of this years events and all the ways to get involved, log onto www.pdxbridgefestival.org.  The team of Tucker Teutsch and Jessica Klinke have been working massive amounts of magic to put this year’s festival on- we here at Portland City Art are proud to be a part of such a dynamic duo and the city-wide event!

Watch the PDX Bridge Festival production team stop center lane traffic on Multnomah County’s 100-year old Hawthorne Bridge to install tension fabric and motion triggered lighting in preparation for the ‘Hit the Lights’ event tonight (Saturday July 24th) at 9:30pm. Best full pan viewing for the show is likely to be on the Morrison, one bridge to the north. Come and bear witness to a ‘first’ in our city’s history.
